My happiest moment today -
Adam and I went to the coffee Bean on South Lake this afternoon. He did great – he drank his milk from a cup and we had a citrus tea cake. What he wanted more he uses sign language symbol. He listened to me talk and he giggled and we just hung out. It was like having a buddy.

Nobody prepared me -
That little boys will play with their “turkey timer” and with no sense of shame but pure wonderment. So tonight AAA is in the tub and he’s got these plastic squirting toys and he discovers its really …er, simulating to squirt his junk with water. After a few minutes he looks at me for an emotion (validation, laughter, horror) to associate with his new activity. You know what I mean, it’s a new thing and kids rely on the parent as a gauge. Not wanting to project my own Mormon-Catholic-Jewish-Shamsn shame on him “hey, enjoy your penis!” I say as I shrug my shoulder, “when you get older everyone gets uptight and tells you to put it away – have fun now.”
Nobody prepared me and it was the best I could think of on the spot. He’ll either be well adjusted or need a therapist with me as his dad; no middle ground I’m sure.
It may not be a nightly check-in but I have situations that catch me off guard and I have no idea what to do or say.

My happiest moment today:
Watching Zack tolerate Adam’s attempts to put a baseball hat on. Over and over as Adam really wanted to share.
(iIt was cuter than the picture shows.)

My happiest moment today:
Getting AAA to bed. His energy was drained and he was whining and crying from exhaustion and didn’t want to sleep even though that’s what he needed. Whew.

My happiest moment today:
Healing the sick! Naw, I’ll leave that to fiery but I did nurse AAA back to health despite how much sleep I lost and how much work it is. Pediatric nurses around the world – I bow. Whew.

Ugh – Roseola! At least it’s not measles and his fever broke at 2 am.
Exanthema subitum (meaning sudden rash), also referred to as roseola infantum (or rose rash of infants), sixth disease (as the sixth rash-causing childhood disease) and (confusingly) baby measles, or three-day fever, is a disease of children, generally under two years old,[1] although it has been known to occur in eighteen year olds, whose manifestations are usually limited to a transient rash (“exanthem”) that occurs following a fever of about three day’s duration.

My happiest moment today:
Multiple kisses from a sick little boy. I think he was thanking me for my all day efforts. It was sweet. The parents will have a good laugh at me now. Turns out fevers and flu are not linear things you can forecast. I had AAA down to 97.7 degrees for a few hours after his 5 hour nap and I called this flu thing resolved. However, when he began cuddling and sweating and whining we’re back up to 103 at 4 pm, more Tylenol and now holding at 101. Ugh.
