Saturday night at Haystack Pizza, Adam was enthralled with the cool, host and waiter. What I didn’t know was that they were captivated by him and he had them in his tiny palm, the cool was dancing for him etc.

The thing that struck me was that the host said Adam would grow up to be a politician. I’m not sure if that’s because I’ve had that notion/inkling/whispering before. Or perhaps it was random – but time will tell.

Right now he’s four and a half and learning to be a big boy at Little Bear School.

I think most parents hear these little things and file them away in their hearts and I am no exception but mine is filed away with a date and time.

I promise myself I’ll cut back on gifts for Adam. This year it was less but still went a bit overboard. Not anything big since we already have a bike and a scooter so it’s not a pricey year. Budget was tight so it worked out.

My problem is that I pick up things from September on and then forget. I did that a few Christmases ago and I remember how Emily helped me get ‘unstuck’ and we just started wrapping; I miss her a great deal even still.

Next weekend is baking cookies and the cool getting baked on Baileys. It’s a silly tradition but it’s mine. I’ve got the recipe ready for the cookies and me.

I look at this and wonder what’s typical? He’s a great kid and I think he should be more wreck less and carefree; I hope I haven’t made him to serious.

Honestly, I know the are blue with grey, but I’m very used to them as well. Sometimes it hits me how cute this guy is.

Zane’s Family Christmas Cookies

Zane’s Family Christmas Cookies from childhood.

Ingredients:
• 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 1 1/2 cups shortening (or softened butter)
• 1 cup granulated sugar
• 1 egg
• 2 tablespoons milk
• 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
• 1/2 teaspoon no-color almond extract

Makes:
7-8 dozen cookies.
Instructions:
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
Step 2
In bowl, combine flour and baking powder. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar with electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add egg, milk, vanilla and almond extract; mix well. Gradually add flour mixture to butter mixture; beat until combined. Do not chill. Fill cookie press with dough and with desired disks, press cookies onto ungreased cookie sheet.
Step 3
Bake 10-12 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 2 minutes on cookie sheet on cooling rack. Remove from sheet; cool completely.

My posting habit needs to be re-established.
Yesterday was my first day at Adobe. After almost a year at Walmart, this great option came along. It was interesting for a first day and I’m feeling challenged; excited and a tad nervous – those are good things.

Now I know why I haven’t been posting given all the activity lately. I’ll try to catch up but here is the short list from the past month: Thanksgiving, new house, citation on new house for sidewalks, kindergarten tours, cyber week at the largest retailer, new phone system and it’s struggles, SD rental eviction and rehab with Jeff’s amazing help, Christmas season, counseling, new job with travel, caffeine and wonderful Adam. Whew. It’s been a month.

That feeling when you lock the front door, step outside, close door and realize the keys are inside.

Three weeks in the new house and I haven’t hidden the key and the dog doors are not in. Ugh.

The locksmith tools broke off in the lock so we had to break the nob off. Their replacement locks are pricey – screw that – going to ace hardware. Deadbolt works. Lol.

Since he has no candy of his own we left the Great Pumpkin all of our candy except 10 pieces. In return he left us cool Lego play set.
